Savvy Style: Makeup Bag Essentials for under $15.00

Good makeup doesn’t have to be expensive. As much as I love MAC Makeup (and I really, really love it…it’s pretty much all I’m wearing for my wedding), I also have a certain appreciation for good drugstore makeup that can be found at really reasonable prices. There is no reason why you can’t fill your makeup bag with all the essentials without breaking your budget. For today’s Savvy Style, I present you affordable makeup essentials (that can be found at any drugstore or Walmart/Superstore/Scary large store…if you’re brave enough to venture there) all of which either myself or my closest friends swear by! Why not fill your makeup bag with these essentials (each for under $15.00) and use that extra cash you’ll save to treat yourself to a more expensive item (Hello, MAC x Beth Ditto Powder to the People)!

Foundation

Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse (Pure Beige Medium 2) – $8.99 available here. Okay, I’ve never personally tried this Maybelline foundation, but for as long as I’ve known my good friend Krista McT (going on 7 years now) she has worn this foundation and loved it (raved about it!). Well, when we were in Vegas for my stagette a few weeks ago, some of the girls (i.e Megan West & Madison Blake) were needing a darker foundation to mix with their lighter ones and they borrowed Krista’s Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse and fell in LOVE with it. Apparently, it gives you an air brushed look, goes on super light and smooth, and pure beige medium 2 is the perfect colour that anyone can wear (except for me.. but than again, I take pale to a new level).  Megan West loved it so much, she picked up a bottle when we were in the states two weekends ago. Now if that’s not an endorsement, what is?

Bronzer

Rimmel Natural Bronzer  (22 Sun Bronzer) – $5.49 available here Now, I don’t normally wear bronzer in my day to day life (a crime, I know, and I’m working on fixing this!) so I’m not really the person to be recommending an affordable bronzer. Luckily, I have a lot of friends who do wear bronzers (some more expensive than others). One of my co-workers always has a beautiful glow, so I asked her to show me her bronzer. Out she pulled this Rimmel Natural Bronzer and I decided to try it on. It’s a matte bronzer that gives a nice, natural glow without looking too shimmery, gold, or over the top. For an everyday bronzer, it would be a great addition to anyone’s makeup bag. Even I am considering picking this bronzer up the next time I’m at the drugstore! It’s about time!

Eyeliner

Covergirl Perfect Pointy Plus Eyeliner (Black Onyx) – $4.95 available here. I don’t wear eyeliner everyday, but whenever I do wear it people always give me compliments. I own a few eyeliners from MAC (one in green and one in black) and I really do love the green one. However, when it comes to a plain black eyeliner my favourite is Covergirl Perfect Pointy Plus Eyeliner.  It is self sharpening (such a bonus… I can never find a sharpener when needed), goes on smoothly, and has an amazing smudger attached. I first tried this eyeliner when at a friend’s house a few years back and it was my first time using a smudger, but I really loved the way it made the eyeliner look and bought myself the eyeliner the next day. You could probably find a a bit better quality eyeliner (something that lasts longer) but for the price this eyeliner really is amazing for day to day use!

Mascara

Covergirl Lash Blast Volume (Very Black) – $7.79 available here. I love, love, love this mascara. I have been wearing it since 2009 and every once and a while I will buy a mascara from MAC, or try a new brand, but I always come back to Covergirl Lash blast Volume.  The brush is awesome and I love the way the mascara is applied to your lashes. I used to always wear the waterproof version because anytime I had it on I got compliments (“Are those your REAL lashes?!”), but I stopped doing that once I realized how hard it was on my eyelashes. Sure, to get a really dramatic look you have to apply a few coats, but even with just one coat on… your eyes will be looking glamorous and youreye lashes will be looking full of volume (and super sexy)! Seriously, grab it and try it… it’s a winner in my eyes!

Lipgloss

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss (Peach Petal) – $6.99 available here.  For those of you who love a nude lip (I’m looking at you Megan West) then you will love Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss.  I first tried this lip gloss about a year ago, and I went through it pretty quick (because I was wearing it everyday). I haven’t tried any of the other colours, but for those of you who aren’t as big of fans of the nude lip, Revlon offers this lip gloss in a variety of colours (including colours like the one above… I couldn’t find a photo of Peach Petal on Revlon’s website). The lipgloss isn’t too sticky, has a nice shine, and lasts pretty long considering the price.

So there you have it! Makeup essentials for under $15.00. Why not pick them up, try them out, and see just how fabulous you can look at a fabulous price?! I mean can you really go wrong when you can fill your makeup bag with ALL of the essentials for less than $45.00? I didn’t think so!

Until next time…
